There were many who were stunned when the halfway retired Jonny Evans returned to Manchester United in 2023 for his second round for the club. First to be part of the injury-hit squad on the training ground, then as part of the match squad – then extension. After 43 games, Evans and United thanked him in the summer for the company. Wrexham and Ryan Reynolds were of course on the veteran side for a Welcome to Wrexham round in the Championship, but Evans opted to retire. He probably knew a new opportunity would come at United.
Evans has helped win the Premier League, Champions League, League Cup and Club World Cup with United, now his experience will be put to good use in the club’s work with younger players.

According to The Athletic, United want to “leverage his knowledge of youth development.” According to the English media, Evans will be put in charge of rental stays for new talent. Les Parry, the Red Devils’ former “rental manager”, left his position in November 2024 to take on a similar job in Saudi Arabia. The void is now ready to be filled by Evans.
This means Jonny Evans is back and will ensure that Manchester United continue the skills and experience gained at the club. Good to hear in a club where everything has to be changed, cut and modernized.
