There were probably many who were stunned when Manchester United announced the squad of 32 players who will travel to the preseason in the United States. Not surprisingly, Garnacho, Sancho, Antony, Malacia and Rashford were absent, all messing with transfer processes, but when Harry Maguire himself wasn’t going to be there either, there was the big question mark. “Big Harry” ready for exit? Maguire injured before the fun starts? That was a “simpler” explanation.

Relegated captain Maguire was squeezed out by Erik ten Hag in every transfer window, but refused to be pressured. The English centre-back bent his neck, trained hard and showed he has everything to do in the United defence. With Ruben Amorim football, Maguire also got an even bigger role. It was therefore with relief that we saw Maguire’s message on Instagram.

Various English media reported Maguire was left out of the squad due to “personal reasons”, the 32-year-old quickly came out with a response:

“Everything is fine now. I’m leaving tomorrow to meet the squad in the United States. Thank you for your consideration,” Maguire wrote.
