At the beginning of July, the football world was hit by tragic news when Diogo Jota lost his life in a car accident along with his brother André Silva. The whole of Liverpool has since mourned the loss of their player. The club ensures that Jota’s family will receive the salary for the next few years, a decision that says a lot about Liverpool as a club and the people behind it. Now comes another celebration that will bring out a few extra tears in many.

Diogo Jota’s No. 20 shirt was earlier this month “protected”. – This means that the number should never be worn at the club by other players, including the women’s team and the academy. It doesn’t stop there.

On the club’s website, Liverpool announce that they will honour Jota in the coming season with a special emblem on the players’ shirts. It will read “Forever 20”. The players’ kits will be announced on August 4.

In Saturday’s friendly against AC Milan, they will also wear a specially designed badge on their shirts that reads “Diogo J. 20”.

You’ll never walk alone.
