The ATP tournament in Paris is underway. It is one of the last chances to gain points for the ATP Race ranking, from which the eight best tennis players will be entitled to take part in the season finale, i.e. ATP Finals. At the moment, the last one who will get the right to start in the ATP Finals is Holger Rune. However, Hubert Hurkacz, who takes 9th place in the race, is hot on his heels. Their matches today may decide their fate.
If I were to point out a tennis player who stood out this season, compared to the achievements of Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic, I would certainly point to Hubert Hurkacz. After all, he played with Novak Djokovic for two days at Wimbledon this year and managed to win a set against the Serb. He was also the one who caused problems for Carlos Alcaraz and almost beat him during the US Open Series tournaments preceding the US Open. After all, he was the one who recently won against Andrey Rublev in the final of the ATP tournament in Shanghai. It is no wonder that he is fighting with Holger Rune to advance to the ATP Finals.
Hubert Hurkacz continues to fight for a place in the ATP Finals. He is helped by his excellent form in recent weeks. On Wednesday, Hurkacz advanced to the 1/8 finals of the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Paris. Thanks to this, he got much closer to Holger Rune in the ATP Race, who holds the last position guaranteeing participation in the ATP Finals
In the ATP Live ranking, Hurkacz is still in ninth place with 3,155 points, but his loss to the Dane is now only 135 points, while before it was 215 points. The Dane will have to face enormous pressure, because any slip up and quick exit from the tournament could cost him dearly.
Who do you want to see in the ATP Finals – Hubert Hurkacz or Holger Rune?
