Since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013, the arrows have not exactly been pointing upwards for Manchester United. The Glazer family has sucked out over 10 billion kroner from the club’s coffers, let Old Trafford fall into disrepair and moved further and further away from the top of European football.
Problems are lining up for new manager Ruben Amorim when he arrives at the club in a few days. Commentator and a true Manchester United legend Gary Neville is known for not sugaring his comments, he doesn’t now either: “Bruno Fernandes is the only Manchester United player who has exceeded expectations in the last decade”

England’s arguably biggest club, Manchester United, has not achieved much success in the last decade. Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS are now trying to change that, but this season is probably already a write-off. Erik ten Hag who has overseen the worst start to a Premier League season in the club’s history.
Ruben Amorim knows what he is getting into. Speaking to the media on Monday, he admitted that he is aware of the fact that he is about to enter “a more complicated world.” The Portuguese tactician will have his hands full in getting Man Utd back in place and club legend Gary Neville believes that everything will depend on how the players react to their new boss.
Speaking on Sky Sports, Neville insisted that Amorim ‘must get the best out of the players’ to have any chance of surviving the managerial graveyard that Man Utd have become.
“He has to get the best out of the players. The players must take responsibility for what has happened in the last 10 years. The club has signed many players that other clubs wanted, and when these players have arrived at Manchester United, they deteriorated.
“Why is that? It could be the coach, it could be the players, it could be the environment is too big for them, whatever it is it has to change, because if he doesn’t change it, he will fall in the same way that the rest of them have done. .”
Neville went so far as to suggest that club captain Bruno Fernandes is the only player signed in the last decade who can be classified as a success and one who exceeded expectations.
“Only really Bruno I can think about in 10 years has signed for the club and done more than I thought he would. I can’t think of any other player. That’s £1.8 billion spent in the last 10 years, that’s one thing that needs to change,” Neville thundered.
