Yesterday, Barcelona defeated Crvena Zvezda 5-2, setting a new club record with the victory.
FC Barcelona is a team accustomed to scoring lots of goals. But this year has been something very special indeed.
FC Barcelona’s highest goalscoring start… ever!
For the first time in the club’s history: Barcelona have 55 goals across all competitions in the first 16 games of the season.
Previously, the record was set in the 1950/51 season under head coach Ferdinand Daučík, when Barcelona scored 54 goals in the first 16 games.

Statistically this is the best season ever, even compared to the bygone era when teams typically played with five forwards in a 2-3-5 system and games were therefore much higher scoring.
In third place comes the 1927/28 season, before La Liga had been founded and when Barça scored 54 goals in the 16 games of the Copa del Rey, some of those matches against some rather weak opponents. Which makes what we are currently witnessing all the more impressive.

Top at home and in Europe
Barça are currently the top scorers in La Liga with 40 goals, almost double the number scored by Real Madrid, who are second in the ranking with 21. Around Europe’s biggest leagues, the only teams that come close to Barça are PSV, who have 37 in the Netherlands, and Sporting with 35 in Portugal.
The Catalans also come out top in the Champions League, with 15 goals followed by Borussia Dortmund with 13. Comparing both competitions, the team with the second most Champions League and domestic goals is Bayern Munich with 51.
Hansi Flick’s team has earned 9 points in their first 4 Champions League matches and currently leads La Liga with 33 points from 12 rounds.
