Former Manchester United striker Louis Saha is quite convinced that Cristiano Ronaldo can return to Old Trafford after Ruben Amorim’s arrival as the new manager.

Amorim officially took charge of Manchester United on November 11, but he couldn’t start until a week later due to a delay in processing his work permit. Now he is in full swing preparing the Red Devils for Sunday’s Premier League clash with Ipswich Town at Portman Road.

The 39-year-old has taken over a team that is currently 13th in the Premier League table, with goals that are a major problem this season, managing just 12 in his 11 games.

Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund have only netted three times between them in all competitions this season, and there have been suggestions that the Red Devils could aim for a striker in January. Saha has spoken about the prospect of Ronaldo representing Manchester United for the third time, his close relationship with Amorim makes the ideal a possibility, according to his former teammate.

Saha tips former teammate Ronaldo to return to Man United
“I think Cristiano Ronaldo would love to return to the club in a role where he is respected. He left the club on slightly bad terms, so the club’s hierarchy may not want that to happen, but the players and fans understood what he was. people can’t say that what he said was wrong,” Saha said on his social media.

“Cristiano has a connection with Ruben Amorim, but I don’t think he will sign him just because he is his friend. He wouldn’t sign him just to please him, he would only do it if he thinks Cristiano can help.

“If there was an opportunity to come back, I’m sure Cristiano would love to come back and help the club because he will love the challenge. If he has the chance, he will come.”

Ronaldo originally represented Man United between 2003 and 2009, scoring 118 goals in 292 appearances for the Red Devils, winning three Premier League titles, an FA Cup, two League Cups and the Champions League during his first spell at Old Trafford.

The attacker then returned to the Red Devils from Juventus in 2021, scoring 27 goals in 54 games, but he left on a free transfer in the final stages of 2022, with a controversial interview with Piers Morgan, in which he was highly critical of the club, leading to his contract being terminated.

Ronaldo joined Al-Nassr on a free transfer in the early stages of 2023, and he has represented the Saudi Pro League outfit on 79 occasions, scoring 68 goals and registering 18 assists in the process.

The striker also remains an important player for Portugal, scoring an astonishing 135 goals in 215 international matches, including five in his four appearances in the group stage of the 2024-25 UEFA Nations League.

Ronaldo’s contract with Al-Nassr expires next summer, but the striker is expected to represent Portugal at the 2026 World Cup, so he is set to play at least one more season in club football.
