David Beckham secured a lucrative deal when he moved from Real Madrid to LA Galaxy during his time as a player. The right to establish an MLS club was in the agreement, in 2018 Inter Miami was established. Six years later, Messi, Suarez, Busquets and Alba are running around in the pink Inter Miami shirt. Now Juan Mata is investing in an MLS club that is just starting out, with similarly big ambitions as Beckham.

Billionaire Mohamed Mansour established San Diego FC in 2023, next season the club will make its MLS debut. Players like Kevin de Bruyne and Mo Salah have been linked to the fledgling club with ambitions like a David Beckham. The star signings are not in place, but stardust is thrown from a Manchester United legend who is putting his investment and involvement into the MLS club.
