Martin Ødegaard knows better than anyone how tough it has been to break through in Real Madrid’s midfield with a Toni Kroos and Modric claiming playing time. Now Kroos is retired, but for Brahim Diaz, the playing time prospects are still not bright.

Diaz rose through the ranks at Manchester City’s academy from 2013, made his debut with Pep Guardiola in 2017, but realized he was not getting the entry for the big break. The attacking midfielder signed with Real Madrid in 2019, but here too the Moroccan international has not broken through. Three seasons at AC Milan, returning to Real in 2023.

Although Ancelotti has assured Diaz that he is an important player in the squad, the crumbs of playing time have not given the 25-year-old the belief in more.

Arsenal have a history of signing Real Madrid players on permanent transfers. Davor Suker, Mesut Ozil and Martin Ødegaard were brought in from the La Liga giant, according to TBR Football, Arsenal are actively monitoring the situation of the disgruntled Diaz.

Real Madrid have announced that Diaz is unavailable, but there is a perception that this could change in the weeks before the January transfer window opens, where a potential loan spell could be considered for the London club.

For Diaz, a “Ødegaard chance” could be just what he needs to revitalize his career.
