Former Liverpool boss Peter Moore apparently has friends at Anfield who tell him what’s going on and now he has revealed what he knows about the discussions about Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk’s contracts.

The 69-year-old was the Reds’ CEO between 2017 and 2020, and his work coincided with Jürgen Klopp’s success in the Champions League and Premier League – in 2019 and 2020 respectively.

Several of the players involved in the triumphs are still at the club, but Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah and Virgil Van Dijk’s futures are still unclear.

Trent Alexander-Arnold, who has been a Liverpool player all his life, is already said to have agreed with Real Madrid on a free transfer next summer, but as long as nothing is signed, there is still room for changes.

The former Liverpool boss was no stranger to dealing with this type of situation during his tenure at Anfield, and he explained what he knew about the situation.

“I don’t know what’s going to happen [with the contracts],” he told Soccerex in Miami.

“If it’s Trent [Alexander-Arnold], it’s Virgil [van Dijk], it’s Mo [Salah].

“It’s hard to imagine any of them leaving Liverpool.

“Ownership, I know, is working feverishly to get deals done, whether it’s all three, two of the three, one of the three, or none of the three.

“I don’t know, but you look at those players and what you like is that they all seem very dedicated right now. There’s no one – especially with the three – taking a gamble for one reason or another.

“Even in Trent’s case, they’re retired.

“You think about what they’re offering, and in January, especially in Trent’s case, we’ll see what happens. But I know that ownership talks to their respective agents – I’m sure frantically.”

In October, Van Dijk admitted that discussions between his representatives and the football club were ongoing, but also explained how he had “no idea” what the future holds when speaking to The Athletic.

As for Salah, he has previously been the subject of a £150 million bid from Saudi Pro League side Al-Ittihad, which Liverpool rejected in August 2023.

All three players will be free to discuss pre-contract deals with foreign clubs when the transfer window opens on January 1, 2025.
