The Bergen club Brann has without a doubt become much, very much better under the leadership of Eritik Horneland. Before the penultimate league round, they had the Eliteserien gold in their own hands, but while Bodø/Glimt had two “easy” games against teams at the bottom of the table, it is far tougher for the Bergens.

In an interview with Bergensavisen, Brann coach Eirik Horneland admits that he is tired, and he sows doubt about his future as head coach of the club. This comes at the same time as the news broke that he was one of three coaches on MLS club St. Louis City’s wish list. – Horneland was not in first place!.

It is a tough job to be a head coach, especially when you lead with “your whole body and soul” as Eirik Horneland does. – It is not uncommon that you can run out, without comparison it was quite exactly what Liverpool manger Jürgen Klopp said before he announced his break almost a year ago.

Eirik Horneland, who was just named Eliteserien coach of the month, experienced the same thing at a previous club, in 2015 he quit as Haugesund coach because, according to his own statement, he ran out of energy and was unable to give 100 percent.

In the interview with BA, he was asked about the future after signaling he is tired:
“It could be. And then changing the environment can help create new energy. I have not concluded on anything, but it is important for me to be honest that it has been a demanding year. It is demanding to keep 30-40 men on their toes every day. Then I have a style that is intense, and that’s how I want to be. I have to feel that I have the intensity to move on.

After Brann’s 1-2 loss to Molde, it is Bodø/Glimt who have the upper hand in the gold medal match before the weekend’s league finale. If Brann loses at home to Viking (who are two points behind), the silver and the Champions League place will also slip away at the finish line.
