That hasn’t been the case for Marcus Rashford since the 2022/23 season where he hammered in goals and was able to sign a new contract as the club’s highest-paid player. Erik ten Hag thought it would loosen up this season, but we didn’t see much of this until the Dutchman was tipped out of the club in October. There have been signals that Rashford could have a challenging time under Amorim.
“[Arorim] comes to United to succeed, he hasn’t come in to just pick players who have been there for a while. If you are not up and running, some of these players have six months until the summer window. If you’re not up and running, you’re gone… There is probably no room for both Garnacho and Rashford. When you look at a 3-4-3, you’d probably say Garnacho, [Rasmus] Hojlund, and maybe an Amad [Diallo] that you would choose,” former Aston Villa captain Agbonlahor told TalkSport last week.

On Saturday, Rashford was in the right place when Amad Diallo elegantly raced past the Ipswich defence and served up a “finished” cross to Rashford after just two minutes, but expectations for the club’s highest paid are still on hand throughout the season. Amorim was of course asked about Rashford.
-I will try to help him. That position is not the best for him, especially in a game like that. We have to play with high pressure, we have to kick the ball so many times, and it was like fighting with two giants. We will try to find the right solution for him, as for the other players. But he has to be Marcus first and foremost to try and get back to that moment and then he will get all the help from the staff, the club and the fans because he is a Manchester United boy, but he has to be the first one who wants it,” Amorim said according to Goal.
He must first want it…
