He took charge of four games across all competitions and remained unbeaten with three wins and a draw, but new manager Ruben Amorim decided to fire Van Nistelrooy.

As for his temporary spell at Old Trafford, the Dutchman took two wins over struggling Leicester City, who recently sacked Steve Cooper after a five-month stint in charge of King Power. The Foxes have picked up just two wins from 12 league games this season, conceding 14 goals in their last five games in all competitions.

The Telegraph writes that Ruud van Nistelrooy has agreed with Leicester City on a contract and that details remain.

The appointment of a new manager has been led by owner-manager Aiyawatt ‘Top’ Srivaddhanaprabha and director of football Jon Rudkin.

When Manchester United face Leicester at King Power on March 15, 2025, it will be with Ruud van Nistelrooy on the opposite side.

After his quick exit this month, Van Nistelrooy wrote an emotional farewell letter to United fans.

“I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your incredible efforts and support,” he said. “It has been a privilege and honour to represent the club as a player, coach and manager and I will always cherish the memories. we have shared together.”

He added: “Man Utd will always have a special place in my heart and I hope there are many more glory days at Old Trafford very soon – not just because I want the club to do well, but because you all deserve it.”
