For two seasons, Carlo Ancelotti has led Real Madrid to La Liga and Champions League titles since his move from Everton in 2021, most recently last season. This means little at Real Madrid. Football is perishable here like no other club in the world, the patience for weak results is absent. Wednesday’s 2-0 defeat to Liverpool sends Ancelotti another step closer to the exit door. In the stands sat the coach Spanish media believes will replace the Italian fox.

According to COPE journalist Roberto Morales, former Real coach Santiago Solari is lined up to take over when Ancleotti is finished.

Solari has done it before. In the autumn of 2018, when Julen Lopetegui was fired, Santiago Solari, who was then coach of Real Madrid’s second team Castilla, was given the job of interim manager. And then after 14 days to get the job permanently, which in practice meant another 114 days until champion Zinedine Zidane’s return.

Interestingly, Real Madrid sacked Solari after a loss to Ajax in the Champions League – with Erik ten Hag at the helm.

The Spanish journalist adds that Ancelotti has great respect with the Real management and will have the opportunity to show he can lift the game, but if it continues as against Liverpool in the Champions League, Solari should get ready.
