This summer, Marseille paid £26.6 million for Mason Greenwood. The winger had shown on loan at Getafe he had not forgotten his tricks, at the French club the 22-year-old has had a terrific start to the season with 9 goals and 13 Ligue 1 games as the league’s second highest scorer. If Greenwood continues, this could mean a huge extra income for Manchester United – without Ratcliffe and the gang having to lift a finger.
Greenwood’s success has been registered with Barcelona and Real Madrid, according to TBR Football, the two La Liga giants are closely watching Marseille’s No. 10.

The two Spanish clubs, along with Atletico Madrid, considered signing Greenwood this summer, but “allowed” Marseille to run away with the signature. Manchester United have reportedly negotiated a buy-in clause with Marseille, which will provide a share of future sale proceeds on Greenwood. According to TBR Football, this should be around 50% of the transfer fee.
If Real Madrid or Barcelona go for the signing of the Englishman and pay around 50 million euros, Manchester United will be left with around 25 million euros without lifting a finger. For spending cut general Sir Jim Ratcliffe, these must be sweet tones.
