The dream was about to be realized. An avid Australian Everton fan had spent his entire savings account on the trip that would become a memory for life. “Darragh” wanted it differently.

It takes extreme weather for the Premier League to cancel any matches, but when storm Darragh sweeps in over the ball island and hits Goodison Park with full force, then even the Merseyside derby had to be beaten by the forces of nature.

15-year-old Mackenzie Kinsella traveled from Australia with her mother born in Liverpool to watch the game.

“When we came back [after Easter], he said it was his dream to go to a game between Everton and Liverpool at Goodison Park,” Kinsella begins.

-He saved up the money, used all his savings and said two weeks ago “I really want to travel mom – will you let me go?” I said, ‘I can’t stop you if you have the money.’ We are very proud of him,” says mum Kinsella.

Who had to watch his son miss the game that has been moved to sometime in February. Even if your savings have been used up, we’re guessing someone will support the next Merseyside derby to give the story a happy ending.

Luckily, the 15-year-old got Everton’s 4-0 win against Wolverhampton on Wednesday, the teenager is not going back to Australia completely empty-handed on football experiences.
