Cristian Romero had a bad day at work on Sunday, with the 26-year-old having to leave the pitch with a sad injury in the bitter loss to city rivals Chelsea, followed up in the hours after the game with unfortunate statements to the Spanish media.
In an interview with Telemundo Deportes, Romero was asked about the quality of the Tottenham squad. The answer was more than a hint that decisions off the pitch cost when it comes to match day.
-The truth is that I would say “no comments”, but… Manchester City competes every year, you see how Liverpool are strengthening their squad, Chelsea are strengthening their squad, not doing well, strengthening again, and now they’re seeing results. That’s the way it has to be done. You have to realise that something is going wrong, hopefully they (Spurs management) realise that,” Romero began.
-In recent years, it has always been the same: first the players, then the coaching staff changes, and it is always the same responsible. Hopefully they realize who are the true responsible ones and we move on, because it is a great club that, with the structure it has, can easily compete for the title every year, came from the Tottenham star.
On Wednesday, Ange Postecoglou was asked about the harsh criticism from Romero.
“I’ve already talked to Cristian about it. He has apologized for the way he said it. Especially in public. It wasn’t the right way to do it. I think it would have been easier for him not to say anything…,” the Australian says according to The Athletic.
