The Swedish teenager was picked up from the academy of BK Häcken by Per Mathias Høgbmo. The Norwegian coach thus gave Sonko the opportunity to play his way to the historic league gold for the club. Høgmo left the Allsvenskan club at the end of 2023, a few months later the young midfielder was brought to Genk. Now the 19-year-old is ready for a giant step.

Sonko has not been successful at the Belgian club in his 26 appearances (3 goals and 1 assist), mainly as a substitute. At Balløya, the 19-year-old is now being closely monitored, the potential is perceived as great.

According to The Guardian, Liverpool have had Sonko on their radar ever since 2017. The Premier League club attempted to sign him in January and are now back to convince Sonkom of destination Liverpool.
