There were a lot of Manchester United fans who were outraged that David de Gea did not get his contract extended and left in the summer of 2023 after 12 years. In Erik ten Hag favourite André Onana, who, to put it gently, has a varying level of performance.
While David de Gea delivers in Serie A for Fiorentina after a year without a club, his successor at Old Trafford is about to lose his place.
It is a bit surprising as several English media have written in recent weeks that a lot of players will be sold this winter and next summer to adapt players to manager Ruben Amorim’s style of play. While about half of all players are on an out list, Onana was one of the “safe” ones.
Now that is no longer the case!
Football Insider reports today that Manchester United want to sign Botafogo’s successful goalkeeper John Victor (28), who was named the best goalkeeper in the Brazilian league and the Copa Libertadores.
John Victor kept a clean sheet 22 times in 51 appearances last season and was a key player as Botafogo won both the league and the Copa Libertadores. In an interview with Football Insider, the agent confirms his interest from Europe.
“I have received many calls from clubs in Europe asking about John. It’s no surprise after what he’s achieved with Botafogo. There have been clubs in England, Germany, Portugal and elsewhere – but John prefers the best league in the world. Premier League,” says agent Pedro Gutierrez.
John Victor’s contract with Botafogo lasts until 2027.
