Manchester United legend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has made some waves this weekend by attending a Premier League game at the same time as there are rumours that the former Manchester United manager could return to the Premier League.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was spotted at the Molineux stadium just a week after receiving a “concrete” contract offer from Molde. Molde chose to fire head coach Erling Moe after a poor season where they for the first time in a long time did not qualify for games in Europe.
After playing for Manchester United for more than a decade, Solskjaer returned to the club in 2018 as manager, spending three years in the role before being replaced by interim manager Ralf Rangnick. Since he was fired, despite being linked to several clubs, he has not taken any new job offers.
On Saturday afternoon, Solskjaer was seen at the Molineux Stadium for Wolverhampton Wanderers against newly promoted Ipswich Town. – A game they lost 2 – 1 and with that Wolverhampton are even further away from survival in the Premier League.
His attendance at the match comes just days after the 51-year-old reportedly turned down a “concrete” opportunity to return for Norwegian Molde for the fourth time after working there both as a player and manager.
According to VG, the Norwegian side’s president Leif-Arne Langøy contacted Solskjær after firing former Erling Moe, but did not receive a response.
Therefore, with Solskjaer seemingly open to receiving management offers again, it is possible that attending the Premier League game at Molineux could suggest that he is considering a return to the Premier League in the near future.
Should this be the case, Wolves could be the perfect club for the Norwegian to restart his managerial career as current boss Gary O’Neil continues to face mounting pressure after a dismal start to the 2024/25 season.
However, it is also possible that Solskjaer is simply attending the game to support Ipswich manager Kieran McKenna who worked under him while he was in charge of United. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made 168 appearances at Man Utd.
Solskjaer has previously spoken out about where he sees his career going forward, claiming that it would take a big offer to convince him to move away from home in Norway.
“It has to be something exciting enough, with the right people,” he said while speaking on the Pitch Notes podcast last month.
“But I feel so good now that there must be something that triggers me enough for me to choose to leave Nordmøre.
“I think that a national team can suit me, but then it can’t be on the other side of the world.”
Wolverhampton would be perfect for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and vice versa
