The last few minutes of tonight’s Manchester derby have made the football commentators outdo each other in describing how Manchester City’s collapse should not happen. Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva scolded his teammates in a brutal speech after their 2-1 shock loss.
After the game to Sky Sports, the Portuguese midfielder said: “We totally deserved what happened because at this level, if it’s a game or two, you can say they’re lucky or not.
“If it’s 10 games, it’s not about that.
“If minute 87 of a derby wins 1-0, corner for your team, and the ball ends up with your goalkeeper with a penalty for them, my friend, if you make these stupid decisions when there’s three or four minutes to go, you deserve to pay for it
“If you look at the game up until minute 86, there was only one team that could win that game, but in the end we lost and it’s not one game, it’s a lot of games lately.
“We have to look at ourselves. It’s not about “Oh, we’re playing so well, and that’s a bit unlucky”. No! It’s the decisions you make. Today in the last minutes we played like under 15 and you pay the price.
“There is no excuse for that at this level. So we deserved what happened.”
Worth noting, Manchester United were far from brilliant. – One thing that caught the attention of the press was the fact that Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho are both left out of the Manchester United squad.
‘Unconfirmed’
United refused to give an explanation for any of the players’ absences from the game, instead saying that none of them have been selected on the bench.
According to the Manchester Evening News, both Rashford and Garnacho were involved in training on Sunday morning, and neither player has suffered an injury, suggesting that Amorim’s decision is purely tactical.
Amorim told Sky Sports: “We tried to evaluate everything: training, performance, game performance, engagement with teammates, pushing teammates up… Everything is at stake when we analyze and try to choose the players. So, my choice Simple.
“I don’t want to send a message, it’s simply evaluation and they know it. The players are really, really smart and so everyone understands my decision and I have to choose. It’s just a simple choice.”
Rashford’s omission from the squad comes at a time when his future at United is up in the air. It was recently reported that the Red Devils are open to selling the academy candidate in the January transfer window.
Another report went so far as to say that United would be prepared to sell Rashford for as little as £40 million.
As for Garnacho, he has been involved in accusations of a leak in the dressing room, and his brother was forced to deny being responsible for several team news leaks.
Amorim’s entire starting line-up seemed to leak on social media before the game. It turned out to be 100% correct, but whether it is pure coincidence or not is unknown.
