When Arne Slot and the Liverpool players put on their Santa hats to celebrate Christmas, it is with the certainty that they are at the top of the table. The Merseyside club has started at a title pace, the supporters have started to look forward to the trophy being bussed through the streets of Liverpool. Then it is worth reminding the supporters that the club has a not very pleasant statistic with a lead until Christmas.

The BBC has looked back at how things have gone with the clubs that have led until Christmas Eve, when the PL trophy is to be handed out six months later.

What is encouraging for Liverpool supporters is that 50 percent of the clubs that have led up to Christmas have ended up with the title: In 16 seasons out of 32, the Premier League table’s top club on Christmas Day also wins the title.

Now to the less uplifting for Liverpool supporters. This is the seventh time the Reds have been at the top of the table, on December 25, but the only title in these seasons since 1992 was in 2019-20. So 1 out of 7 times.

We recommend Liverpool supporters to wait with the big celebration.
