It was eight successful years for Oscar at Chinese Shanghai Port. It was not possible for the club to continue his gigantic salary into the next season, despite league gold and great interest from everyone if the Brazilian midfielder was to continue.

Shanghai Port’s salary cap was a “poor” 3 million euros, small change for a player who has pulled in 240 million euros during his time in China.

Shanghai Port bought Oscar from Chelsea in January 2017 for €60 million, bringing the total up to €300 million!

Now the attacking midfielder returns home to Sao Paulo in Brazil, which he left in 2010. The contract expires in 2027.

“Oscar is a player who needs no introduction. His technical quality is hard to find on the market. I was involved in the negotiations myself, and talked to him about this potential opportunity for six months. We will work together to achieve good results in 2025,” club president Julio Casares said in a statement.

Sao Paulo finished sixth in the Brazilian league last season.
