A Premier League giant has decided to let others fight to sign Viktor Gyokeres. The Swedish superstar is going to be expensive for whoever wins.
Sporting Clube de Portugal, after success under Ruben Amorim, has developed some of the most talked about players in European football and most of all Viktor Gyokeres.
The 26-year-old has been in good form in the 24/25 season so far, having recorded 27 goals and recorded five assists in 26 games in all competitions for Sporting.
As a result of his impressive form, Gyokeres has been linked with a number of different clubs from across the continent, including Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and Paris Saint Germain.
However, it has now been claimed that a Premier League gitant will no longer be in the race to sign the Swedish international. Caught Offside writes that Arsenal have decided against signing Gyokeres and have chosen to fight Paris Saint-Germain for the signature of a Serie A star.
Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain are both targeting Atalanta’s coveted 25-year-old striker, Mateo Retegui.
Retegui has so far scored 14 goals across all competitions and is currently the top scorer in Serie A with 12.
According to Transfermarkt, Retegui has a market capitalization of 35 million euros, which is significantly less than Gyokeres’ 75 million euros.
Arsenal are back in the Premier League on Friday night when they face Ipswich Town at the Emirates Stadium.
Ahead of the game, Gunners boss Mikel Arteta said: “I make sure we exploit each player to the best of our potential. Everyone needs to feel a part of it.
“You have to rediscover players in different positions, relationships. It’s a great one. It’s a very good exercise and the boys are willing to do everything we ask them to do. That’s a very good thing, too.”
The Gunners are currently third in the Premier League table, two points behind Chelsea and six points behind leaders Liverpool, who also have a game to spare.
