On Thursday, Graham Potter was slapped in as the new West Ham manager. Julen Lopetegui had confidence – until he didn’t this week. In the middle of the winter transfer window, Potter is set to get a few signings for the latter part of the season, which is more natural than turning to Chelsea.

Eighteen months ago, Graham Potter, Todd Boehly’s long-term Chelsea manager, was sacked. Seven months at Stamford Bridge, then it was out on the former successful coach at Brighton. Now Potter is back in the Premier League and London, an order has been placed for the Chelsea player.

Enzo Maresca has since the summer asked Ben Chilwell to find a new club, Potter is more than happy to take the left-back he got to know at Chelsea.

According to Footballtransfer’s sources, West Ham have decided to sign Chilwell on loan for the rest of the season.

Chelsea would prefer to sell Chilwell and clear space, but as we saw with Raheem Sterling’s loan to Arsenal, the London club is open to half-measures.

West Ham are working to send Vladimir Coufal and the £30,000-a-week wage demand out of the squad and make way for Chilwell.

This could revitalise Chilwell’s career, while also giving Potter and West Ham more power going into the second half of the season.
