Those who have seen the German “blunder goalkeeper” Loris Karius train lately are in shock at how hard he works, while at the same time it is a bit incomprehensible that he will not be the first goalkeeper at a bigger club than Schalke 04.

In recent seasons, he has been on the bench for Newcastle without getting a real chance there.

The incident that torpedoed Loris Karius’s career:

On 26 May 2018, he played in the Champions League final for Liverpool against Real Madrid. Real Madrid won the final 3-1, and Karius was blamed for two of the back-to-back goals. The first came after his throw was blocked by Karim Benzema and bounced back into the goal, and Real's third goal came after a long shot from Gareth Bale that Karius let through his hands. It later emerged that he had a concussion before the goals were conceded after getting an elbow in the head, which caused his vision to deteriorate and he became dizzy.

After leaving Liverpool two and a half years ago, Karius has been at Newcastle before becoming clubless this summer. Now he has signed for Schalke 04, the German classics club that is currently in the second division. – So both club and player have a lot to prove. There will be no promotion this season, until it is too far up.

The 31-year-old German has signed a contract that extends until the end of the season, with the possibility of an extension for another season.
