A few days ago, managerial legend Jürgen Klopp became the head of Red Bull’s global football operations.

The 21-year-old Slovenian striker Benjamin Sesko has been in the Red Bull system since the summer of 2019, first at RB Salzburg and then at RB Leipzig. Now Sesko is ‘in talks’ to complete a move to the Premier League, and that could be the signing of this winter despite Jürgen Klopp reportedly saying he would prefer the Slovenian international to at least wait until the summer.

There is no doubt that Benjamin Sesko is very important for RB Leipzig who are currently fighting with their backs against the wall in fourth place in the Bundesliga. (Which is the last Champions League spot) – Losing such an important attacking card now is really a crisis. But on the other hand, Klopp does not want to hold back someone who has delivered for “the system” for so many years.

Sesko (21) has registered 13 goals and three assists in 25 appearances for the German team this season. Harry Kane is number one with 15 goals

The Telegraph wrote yesterday that Arsenal are “long-term admirers” of the Leipzig striker and were keen to “explore a deal preferably in January”, although it would likely be “hugely expensive”.

The need for a striker at Emirates is great

Of course, this is not the first time the Gunners have shown interest in the 21-year-old. In the summer, Arsenal were also forward with proposals for a transfer, but Sesko decided to stay at Leipzig as he was “reluctant” to join Arsenal due to concerns that he would be the second choice behind Kai Havertz, according to the Mail. – That’s not a problem anymore!

United Stand journalist Sam C came in the morning hours today with an update, the north London club is “in talks” with the German club for a potential signing of Sesko. – “Told Arsenal want a loan with purchase option, Leipzig want money upfront or a commitment. Understand Arteta has spoken to Sesko on more than one occasion.”

The Athletic’s David Ornstein, however, was less positive about the potential for Sesko’s arrival at the Emirates in the January window, when he spoke to NBC on Wednesday.

“We hear names like Dusan Vlahovic from Juventus, initial inquiries tell me it’s unlikely,” Ornstein said.

“Benjamin Sesko, another long-term target, he is unlikely to move in the January transfer window, never say never, but it is more likely a summer departure if he leaves RB Leipzig.”

The Slovenian has a contract with the Bundesliga shirt until June 2029. In June 2024, he signed a new contract at the club, with The Athletic reporting that there is a “gentlemen’s agreement between Sesko and Leipzig, likely rather than a contractual release clause, that will allow him to leave for the right project. This number will be discussed before an acceptable range is reached.

Sesko’s previous contract contained a release clause of £55 million.

The likes of Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool were reportedly interested in the striker last summer.
