Even before yesterday’s Champions League match at the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara between Borussia Dortmund and Bologna, the work in the German big club was in full swing to find a replacement for Maanger Nuri Sahin.
The match was described by Sky among others as more than a game of fate. – It would not be enough for the manager to win the game, but to win it so convincingly that it would be clear to everyone that there is no better manager anywhere.
Well, Dortmund lost to Bologna, 2-1 and immediately after the game, conductor Lars Ricken and advisor Matthias Sammer spoke to Prime and said that: “We will discuss tomorrow what is best”.
If Nuri Sahin loses his job, not a big if anymore, former Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is ready to leave if he gets his big wish to sign Europe’s most expensive player after Erling Braut Haaland, Frenkie de Jong eased over from Barcelona.
There is also talk of a temporary solution for the rest of the season, loaned Rogert Schmidt and Stuttgart’s Sebastian Hoeneß have been mentioned as options for Dortmund.
Dortmund were awarded a penalty after just over ten minutes of play against Bologna. Serhou Guirassy managed it in the best way by chipping in 1-0, even though goalkeeper Łukasz Skorupski had a fist on the ball. It was Sweden’s Emil Holm who caused the penalty kick after pulling Waldemar Anton’s shirt on a corner kick and he was also cautioned for the offence.
Bolgona equalized with 20 minutes left of regulation time. Jens Odgaard sent in a pass and Thijs Dallinga hit it into the net. Almost immediately after kick-off, the home team in Italy had also turned the game around.
After a couple of duels and a few counterattacks later, Dallinga got a great chance inside the sixteen-meter box. Gregor Kobel saved the equalizer’s attempt, but the rebound went straight to Samuel Illing-Junior who headed in 2-1.
The game ended 2-1 and now a couple of nervous days await Nuri Sahin.
With the win, Bologna’s hopes of advancing to the playoffs after scoring five points are alive, but the Serie A club is still in a really bad situation. Dortmund have twelve points and that will probably be enough for promotion, even if the Bundesliga club risks falling outside the top eight and a direct place in the round of 16.
