Bodø/Glimt brought both Jens Petter Hauge and Philip Zinckernagel home to Aspmyra last season. Both players had been tested abroad, but realized they had to return to the club where it started. When Albert Grønbæk this month was announced to exit from Rennes barely six months after the transfer from Bodø/Glimt, we joked a bit that “now Glimt can also call Albert Grønbæk home”. There will be no return to Aspmyra yet, the 23-year-old has a job to do in the Premier League first.

In September, Albert Grønbæk boasted about Bodø/Glimt and Norwegian clubs in front of a full Danish press corps. By then, the 23-year-old had surprisingly played his way to a place in the Danish national team squad – and impressed. Much of the cred just got Glimt and the Eliteserien. Grønbæk was signed by Ligue 1 club Rennes in the summer, where Glimt had been the big springboard for the Dane. In the space of a few months, everything has turned around at the French club.

On Tuesday, Grønbæk was ready for a loan stay at Southampton.

“I’m a dynamic player who can be eight or ten. I can play on the wing as well, and I like to have the ball. I think the fans will see a player who likes to run, push, work for the team and hopefully produce goals and assists,” Grønbæk told the Premier League club’s website.

Now the former Bodø/Glimt player will work his shirt off to give Southampton the opportunity to save their place in the Premier League. We are cheering for Grønbæk!
