Premier League legend Kasper Schmeichel took two minutes to accept this summer, when old coach Brendan Rodger called with an offer from Celtic. Well into the season with great success and the label of “world-class goalkeeper”, the Dane has made a choice about the way forward. There was no hint of doubt here.
Celtic have parked Rangers behind them in the Scottish league, with a 13-point gap. In total this season, the 38-year-old has a wild 20 clean sheets in 34 games!
The Dane has shown age is not an issue in his case, for Schmeichel it is only natural to have a run-up to the 2026 World Cup at the club with the best working conditions. On Wednesday, the confirmation came that a new contract with Celtic runs until the summer of 2026.
“I’m very happy that Kasper is staying with us. He has already made a huge impact on the club, both on and off the pitch, and his quality and experience have been crucial for us. We knew we signed a top goalkeeper last year, but he has really delivered for the club already and I know he will continue to do so,” Celtic coach Rodgers told the club’s website.
