It is not entirely certain that the headline will apply until the end of the evening. Manchester City are currently playing Chelsea and Erling Braut Haaland is in the starting line-up.
The Swedish superstar Alexander Isak, who the whole world is now looking for, was once again a hero for Newcastle. – With two goals, he is now up to 17 this season in the Premier League, as many as Erling Braut Haaland at the time of writing. Mohamed Salah tops the list with 19 goals.
At halftime, the score is 1 – 1 without a goal from the Norwegian goal machine that is about to be overtaken on the top scorer list by a Swede.
Newcastle won 1 – 3 at St. Mary’s Stadium against Southampton who with 99.97% certainty will not play in the Premier League next season. Alexander Isak became the hero of the evening with two more goals, he is showered with praise.
The Premier League announced that Alexander Isak is the first Newcastle player to score in five consecutive away games.
The Newcastle Chronicle has a point: “Where would United be without him?”
After just over 20 minutes, Isak went down in the 16-meter box after a tackle from Joe Aribo. Head referee Samuel Barrott did not initially award a penalty, but VAR sent him to the screen, which made him change his mind and point to the penalty mark. Isak thus got the chance to equalize to 1-1. And the Swede was ice-cold from eleven meters when he sent the goalkeeper the wrong way and rolled in his 16th league goal of the season.
“Very calm and composed penalty from Alexander Isak, who is in fantastic form at the moment,” commented Fara Williams on the BBC.
Just four minutes later, there was time again when Isak was set up by Jacob Murphy and made it 2-1 via the post with his 17th goal of the PL autumn.
“He’s red-hot,” the BBC notes in its live report.
Southampton took a surprising lead when James Bree stabbed Jan Bednarek in the forehead and he clearly headed in 1-0 behind Martin Dubravka. By then, ten minutes had passed.
At half-time, Isak had a rating of 9 out of 10 from the local newspaper Newcastle Chronicle.
“It’s Alexander Isak’s show,” read the BBC’s half-time commentary.
Shortly after half-time came 1-3 when Anthony Gordon set up Sandro Tonali, who made no mistake. Isak was noted for a hockey assist on the goal, when he headed the ball to Gordon.
The Swede was then substituted in the 80th minute when he was replaced by Joe Willock.
“Another good day’s work by Alexander Isak,” commented the BBC.
Southampton had a ball in the net through Mateus Fernandes in the closing minutes, but the goal was ruled a narrow offside. Newcastle won 3-1 and remain at the top of the Premier League.
