Nottingham Forest shook off their 5-0 defeat to Bournemouth and responded last week with a 7-0 thrashing of Brighton. There is little doubt that the entire club is imbued with confidence under Nuno Santo. This is confirmed by the fact that the former relegation candidate declined to break the club’s record for player sales.

Forest finished last season six points above the relegation zone, no one expected what has now come from Nottingham. Nuno Santo returned from a Saudi Arabian slump and led the club onto the winning track from the start. Surely something that would pass during the season, many thought.

It didn’t go away. Third place in the Premier League with 14 games left. Three points behind Arsenal.

Four points behind Forest throat Chelsea. According to The Telegraph, the London club hammered on Forest’s door in the last week. Chelsea were willing to pay big for centre-back Murillo. The Brazilian had extended until 2029 a few weeks earlier, but now he was to be brought to Stamford Bridge.

According to the English newspaper, Forest quickly declined. It is unclear how much Chelsea were ready to bid, but it is said to have broken Forest’s club record when they sold Brendan Johnson to Tottenham for £47.5 million.

Nottingham Forest do not intend to help Chelsea pass in the Premier League table. The proud club has bigger plans.
