Arsenal must and should have a pure striker who delivers 15-25 goals every season. This has been the message from London for the past two seasons, but without success. In January, the club slammed a bid on the table of around £60 million for Ollie Watkins, but Aston Villa were not distracted. They are aiming for their own success in the Premier League and Champions League and do not intend to give up the top scorer. For Mikel Arteta, this could ruin the title plan.
The 5-1 thrashing of Manchester City showed this, but with both Bukaya Saka and Gabriel Jesus out injured with no reinforcements coming in, this could hamper Arsenal considerably.
We’ll let Mikel Arteta put into words the lack of activity in the transfer window.
“We have spoken very openly about the intention to improve the squad if we had the opportunity as we have been hit by injuries, but we did not succeed,” Mikel Arteta begins, according to several English media.
“We are disappointed in one way, but we are aware that we are only interested in certain players. It couldn’t be done now, and we have to accept that,” says the Arsenal manager.
Not to make it too dramatic, but seen from the outside, this is something that could cost Arsenal the titles – also this season.
