Over two decades have passed since Cristiano Ronaldo departed from Sporting, and since that time, speculation regarding a potential return to Alvalade has lingered.

Al-Nassr and Portugal national team star Cristiano Ronaldo has addressed whether he could return to Sporting, the club where he began his professional career.

On the day he celebrates his 40th birthday, Ronaldo took the opportunity to assert that returning to his boyhood club “doesn’t make sense.”

This revelation came during an interview with Canal 11.

In the interview, Ronaldo shared his views on celebrating birthdays, stating, “I like to celebrate my birthday. Many people don’t, but I do. I think it’s a good sign. Getting older is a part of life.”

Ronaldo also addressed the current state of Sporting, confirming that he continues to follow the club that launched his illustrious career. He noted, “They have had a season quite similar to the last one, maintaining a consistent team, though they experienced a dip when Ruben left.”

The star player praised the new manager, Rui Borges, saying, “He has been doing good work.” When discussing his future, Ronaldo emphasized that he has “never” considered a return to the Lions, saying it is an option that “doesn’t make sense.”

“I love watching Sporting’s games; it’s my boyhood club… but I have no plans to return and play there. I think it wouldn’t make sense. Of course, Portugal is my home, but everything has its time and limits” – Ronaldo told Canal 11.

Sporting was Ronaldo’s first professional club before he moved to Manchester United in 2003.
