Now the 36-year-old has realized it is time to give up and thanks the club in his heart.

On Thursday, the message came, Marcelo is retiring.

“My love for football comes from my grandfather. He wanted me to become a professional footballer, and he did everything in his power to make it happen. As an 18-year-old, Real Madrid knocked on my door and I chose to move here. Now I can proudly say that I am a true Madrileno. Together with my wife, I have built a family here,” Marcelo begins to his 68 million followers on Instagram.

“It was 16 seasons, 25 titles, five Champions League titles, the role of captain and so many magical nights at the Bernabeu. What a journey! Real Madrid is a unique club and Madridismo is an indescribable feeling, says Marcelo.
