In March, Paul Pogba can put on a match shirt again. The doping ban has been served and the French world champion has made it clear that he will not hide away in the backyard league, but is aiming for Champions League games. The big club Marseille expressed their interest.

Marseille, with Roberto de Zerbi at the helm, has been linked with Pogba for the past month. The sporting director does not hide the fact that the 31-year-old was intended to be part of the Marseille squad.

“He is a player, a man that both President Longoria and I admire. We thought about him, we wanted to do it, but did it make sense to bring in a Pogba who wasn’t yet fit? The risk was to upset the balance of the team with a player who would not have been at his best at the end of the season,” the Marseille director begins to L’Equipe.

Which still keeps the door open for a reunion for the club’s biggest star, Mason Greenwoold, with United mentor Pogba.

“If the opportunity arises next season, we would be happy if a player like Pogba could lend a helping hand,” says the sporting director.
