Frank Lampard did not have a good round at Goodison Park as Everton manager. The Chelsea legend saved survival in the Premier League after his arrival in January 2021, but the following season he was also sacked, seven days before he had completed a year in the Everton job. In the world of football, things turn around furiously fast, Everton player Abdoulaye Doucoure chuckles a little when he thinks back to his time with Lamperd as coach.

The midfielder had for many years been one of the biggest profiles in the Everton team – with the exception of when Lampard ran the shop.

“After a home game, we had a big argument. I wasn’t happy, and I’m an honest person and I told him the truth, and he (Lampard) didn’t like to hear that,” Doucoure reminisces to The Breakdown podcast.

-And the next day I was told that I could not train with the team. I was told that he didn’t feel respected by me, and then they said that I should train with the U21s or train alone. Then I said that I wanted to train alone. I’m a professional and I can take care of myself,” the Everton player continues.

Before he adds smiling.

“Fortunately, it didn’t last long. He was fired a week later, so I only trained for a few days on my own. The following week I came back to the team, and we won against Arsenal, where I was one of the best players in the game…
