This summer, Erik ten Hag proudly told the world he had been named by Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS as the best coach to lead Manchester United forward. The Dutchman had negotiated an extension that would confirm this. About four months later, the Dutchman had been fired. There have been various amounts that Manchester United had to pay in compensation for the mistake, now comes the confirmation. Yes, it was very expensive for a club in financial limbo.

United release the financial figures for the last three months of 2024, here it is stated that it cost £10.4 million to sack Ten Hag and the coaching staff, reports the Manchester Evening News.

Ten Hag wasn’t the only one to be thrown out. The previously so genius sporting director Dan Ashworth only got a few months in the job when Ratcliffe and the United management sacked the former Newcastle director.

Ashworth’s compensation was £4 million, reports the local newspaper.

These figures come at a time when the United management is heading towards new redundancies to cut costs. The management’s blunder with Ten Hag and Ashworth has cost the club £15 million in the space of a few months.
