During the four months Erik ten Hag has spent as a multi-millionaire in the job search queue, the Dutchman has been linked to several jobs. Ajax tried, as did Feyenoord, because Borussia Dortmund became the former United manager’s demands too stiff. Although several big clubs are considering a desperate attempt to save their season by sacking the manager, Ten Hag is still sitting calmly in the boat.
No offer will make him change his mind. Here it should be done right, not a “Ruben Amorim signing”, where the protagonist himself allowed himself to be pressured by a now-or-never ultimatum from the Manchester United management. Amorim wanted to transfer after the season to get a proper pre-season, but had to decide within three days in November. The Portuguese’s choice to go against his intuition by waiting until the end of the season proved to cost him – and his supporters – a lot of disappointment and frustration.
So when Ten Hag is asked – by his agency in a podcast – if he is ready to jump into a new job at the end of the season, Ten Hag has a clear plan.
“I have already decided that I will not be a coach until 1 July, i.e. (waiting) until the new season,” says Ten Hag.
No need to call Ten Hag for a bailout, the Dutchman is wisely waiting for the end of the season.
