Things can’t get any worse for Manchester United, so several have started mentioning a return for Paul Pogba as a good idea. Well, another opportunity seems to be emerging, in a league that is nowhere near as tough as the Premier League.
In February, Pogba was given a four-year ban from football after a doping test found elevated levels of testosterone in his system, almost certainly putting an early end to his career. However, the Frenchman’s ban was later reduced to just 18 months after a successful appeal, giving him time off to return to the pitch in March.
Juventus, with whom he had a contract, chose to terminate Pogba’s contract before Christmas.
According to several reports, Pogba’s preference is to stay and compete at a top club in Europe, despite bids from several clubs in the Saudi Pro League and MLS. Marseille previously appeared to be his most likely next destination after sporting director Medhi Benatia confirmed that the club was interested, but in a shock turn of events, it now appears that Pogba may have made a 180 and could instead link up with Lionel Messi at Inter Miami.
The surprising links to the American club came after Pogba was spotted meeting with club owner and fellow United legend David Beckham ahead of Inter Miami’s MLS opener against New York City FC.
Pogba attended the match alongside tennis legend Serena Williams, fuelling speculation that he could line up in pink and black next month.
In response to Pogba’s attendance at the 2-2 draw at Chase Stadium, the odds on him signing for Inter Miami have swung to 9/4, with both Marseille and Manchester United trailing at 9/2.
One potential problem Pogba could face if he were to join Messi at Inter Miami is fulfilling his hopes of once again playing for the French national team again, as players from outside Europe tend to struggle to break into what is already an impressive French club.
