This week, he was given an assignment as an advisor to Warwickshire County Cricket Club. Now Arsenal are considering bringing in the former Manchester United director as sporting director at the Emirates. Quite sensational when Dan Ashworth was fired at United after 159 days.
Ashworth is not the only candidate, but it is still special that he has made it to Arsenal’s list of candidates. First, he showed a lack of loyalty to Newcastle, where as sporting director he is said to have started talking to United management behind the back of his employer. Newcastle responded by Ashworth right on “gardening leave”. When United finally managed to buy Ashworth, he was described as one of the best in the business by Ratcliffe.
After 159 days in the job, the United management and Ashworth agreed to break off the working relationship. Ratcliffe and the gang certainly didn’t see a trace of “one of the world’s best sporting directors” after all.
Regardless of who was to blame for the cut, we will be concerned when, according to The Athletic, Arsenal have the same Ashworth as a candidate for the job as Mikel Arteta’s partner in the hunt for the Arsenal squad that wins the Premier League.
