There was great optimism when The Glazer Boys announced they would sell out of the club. Then came the counter-message – in familiar American negotiation style – no, not so sure we are selling after all. It ended with a partial sale, where the battle was ultimately between a Qatari investor and the UK’s richest. There were stormy cheers when it was an English sir who won. Finally, an owner who understands Manchester United and the importance of the supporters. On Sunday, the supporters have already had enough.
Around 450 positions removed from the club, ticket prices rising, more than £20 million in expenses to still extend with Ten Hag, sack the Dutchman four months later, buy free Amorim, buy free sporting director from Newcastle to sack the type 159 days later. Status before the Arsenal game on Sunday? 14th place in the Premier League, 16 points above the relegation zone.
According to The Telegraph, a group of Manchester United supporters have planned a protest before the home game against Arsenal. Nothing new, but this time it is also aimed at Ratcliffe, INEOS and the new United management.
A spokesperson for the fan group “The 1958” explains the situation.
“The club is slowly dying before our eyes. Both on and off the pitch, and the blame lies with the current ownership model. The club is facing financial Armageddon. Sir Matt Busby would turn in his grave at the current sight of one of the world’s best football institutions, which is currently on its knees and in many ways ridiculed. The club is going backwards, and it will most likely get even worse, says spokesperson Steve Crompton according to the English media.
The protest is also a continuation of the many previous protests against major owners of the Glazers:
“We urge fans to band together and join us on Sunday as we march towards the stadium in protest against the despised Glazer family and the club’s deliberate attack on fan culture.
