Lyon manager Paulo Fonseca did not apologize afterwards. – Now the verdict is clear, he has been banned for nine months for his behaviour towards the referee in the match against Brest at the weekend.

The French disciplinary body as a result of the scenes that unfolded in Sunday’s match against Brest, where Fonseca, after being sent off in the death seconds of the 2-1 victory, went mad at the referee who sent him off.

The Portuguese got very close to referee Benoit Millot while screaming into his head. He has been given a quarantine that extends until November 30. That corresponds to nine months where he is not allowed to stand on the sidelines. In addition, the quarantine means that he is not even allowed to enter the dressing room before and after the games until September 15.

Fonseca joined Lyon at the end of January 2025, and this episode can hardly be described as the best possible start for the coach.
