When Sir Jim Ratcliffe took charge at Manchester United, he also wrote the goal of a Premier League title in 2028. This would give him and the new United management three years to cut costs and build up a competitive squad with a long-term training solution.

CEO Omar Berrada recently confirmed that Ratcliffe intended to bring the Premier League title back in 2028 to celebrate the club’s 150th anniversary.

United haven’t won the Premier League since 2013, have spent insane amounts of money on a squad that doesn’t win games. With Ruben Amorim’s first months in the job, the club has moved backwards. In the summer, another change of players awaits.

English Goal believes the goal of a 2027/28 season with a Premier League title looks unrealistic. If United follow the development of the first season under Ratcliffe, Manchester United will probably have to wait until the other side of the 2030s to take the much-awaited trophy back to the red part of Manchester.

When Ruben Amorim talked about the goal being the PL title in a few years, United legend Wayne Rooney called it all naïve. Later, there was a somewhat strange statement from Amorim this week.

“I don’t know if I’m going to be here, but the way we think, we’re going to come back and we’re going to win (the Premier League) in the future,” said the coach, who four months ago was touted as the long-term solution after the Ten Hag bout.

Sad to say it, but the goal of Premier League title 2028 must be adjusted, otherwise far too many new downfalls await ahead, where expectations will send one manager after another out the gate.

Wake up and smell the coffee, Ratcliffe.
