United legend Roy Keane has over the past year called Bruno Fernandes useless as United captain. This week, United boss Ratcliffe denigrated the entire Manchester United squad – except Fernandes. On Thursday, the Portuguese Keane showed how a captain should lead and lead to victory, after the game Fernandes pointed the finger at Ratcliffe.
-We have to prove ourselves every day in training, every day that we have a game. We can’t relax in this club. You know it’s a high standard, a lot of attention you get from the media, from everywhere. You have to realize that sometimes you have to focus on your game, try to improve yourself. It’s obviously not good to hear certain things (Ratcliffe’s shaming of United players),” Fernandes begins, according to Goal.
“I don’t think some players like criticism that you’re overpaid or whatever. Everyone has their own contract. The club agrees to do the contracts when you come here or when you make a new contract or whatever, and it’s about you proving that you can be important to the club,” the United captain said.
Which shows Ratcliffe’s statement this week was not very well received in the dressing room. The result seems to have been a “let’s show him” mentality from all the players who went out on the pitch on Thursday.
Maybe this was what it took to weld the United players together for greater achievements?
