Virgil van Dijk has still not agreed with Liverpool. Although it turned out that the “talk” with the PSG bosses in the tunnel under Anfield after the Champions League loss was about the match and not a potential transfer, Liverpool supporters are all but sure that the captain is in the running. A replacement is therefore being worked on, one of Liverpool’s advances will now be blocked.
There was a big fight for Schlotterbeck when he was moving on from Freiburg, in the summer of 2022. Borussia Dortmund manoeuvred their way to the signing of the centre-back, who a few months earlier had made his debut for the German national team. Now the 25-year-old towers as Julian Nagelsmann’s preferred in central defence on the German national team.
According to Bild, Liverpool have shown strong interest in Nico Schlotterbeck, who has 123 appearances in the black and yellow shirt. Dortmund have a contract with Schlotterbeck until 2027, with the German media claiming Liverpool have signalled they are prepared to fork out over €50m for one of the few players with the potential to replace Van Dijk.
Now German Sky Sports reports that the Dortmund management sees Schlotterbeck as the club’s “public face” in the coming years.
The sporting situation at Dortmund is demanding, after another Bundesliga defeat and a disastrous 11th place after 26 games, but Sky Sports claim Schlotterbeck is open to staying.
Liverpool’s advance is to be blocked.
