The Premier League is effectively decided. Even if Arsenal were to want all nine games left of this season, there is no chance that Liverpool would give up a full 12 points.
Arsenal are in second place in the Premier League with 58 points after today’s 1 – 0 win over Chelsea in a game that is described as very boring. Chelsea are still in 4th place with Manchester City one point behind.
Chelsea in the old days, while Roman Abramovich owned the London club, would not have hesitated to give manager Enzo Maresca a bunch of money and sacked after the display we saw tonight.
Arsenal won 1 – 0 at the Emirates Stadium with a goal from Mikel Merino with an assist from captain Martin Ødegaard.
As Kristoffer Løkberg said in the Viaplay studio: “You could have given Maresca and Chelsea a week and they still wouldn’t have come close to scoring goals. I think Arteta had a resting pulse on the sidelines in the second half. Chelsea, it’s one of the most toothless, horrible, awkward … you can use whatever words you want”
After almost exactly 20 minutes, Martin Ødegaard put a perfect corner on the head of Mikel Merino. With steel control, he headed the goal elegan into the goal over Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sánchez.
Arsenal were dominant in the first half, in the second half it was only they who created chances. Chelsea did nothing that Arsenal did not see coming from afar.
An hour into the match, Merino came close to becoming a two-goal scorer, but this time Sanchez made a masterful save. Not long after, Ødegaard tested his shooting foot. However, the finish was not good enough.
