If there’s anyone Barcelona have learned to fear, it’s Cristiano Ronaldo. The Real Madrid legend wrote himself into history with scoring in six straight games against arch-rivals Barcelona. This was history, now there is a new “Barca-dödare”, and he is Norwegian.
Before the top match in La Liga on Sunday between Atletico Madrid and Barcelona, Alexander Sørloth had scored in five straight games against Barcelona.
Julian Alvarez put Atletico in the lead just before half-time, with half an hour left in the game, Hansi Flick and the Barcelona supporters knew it would get tougher. Then Sørloth came onto the pitch, who in the last five games (in the shirts of Atletico, Villareal and Real Sociedad) had not left the field against Barca without scoring.
Less than ten minutes later, it sat from the Norwegian. With that, Sørloth equalled Cristiano Ronaldo’s scoring streak against Barcelona.
For some reason, the Atletico players let themselves down after the 2-0 score and opened up for Barcelona to a wild recovery to 2-4, but we choose to look at Sørloth’s performances in La Liga.
In La Liga, no player has scored more goals as a substitute than Sørloth this season, the Norwegian international is only 1 goal away from entering La Liga history as the highest scoring substitute in a season.
This is huge!
