Last week, everything came at once from Ratcliffe. The plan for the mega-stadium with room for 100,000 to 2 billion pounds, denigrating the United squad, where only Bruno Fernandes is highlighted as worth the money. Then advancing to the Europa League quarter-finals, on Sunday victory against Leicester in the Premier League. So what’s to expect this week? A very unpopular decision was announced on Monday.

When Ratcliffe last week told how close the club was to going into the ditch around Christmas time and how bad things are financially, it is common sense that there would be some new, unpopular decisions. On Monday, the club confirmed that season tickets will increase by 5 percent for the 2025/26 season. This will be the third season in a row that prices have increased.

A small increase for some, but for the average local Man United supporter, this stings sharply in addition to the price increase of everything needed to get through the week. What stings extra is that Manchester United end the Premier League season in a place the world’s biggest clubs cannot accept.

Not surprisingly, messages flew out on social media from angry and disappointed Man Utd supporters. Here is a small selection:

Manchester United fan and YouTuber Mark Goldbridge posted on X: “5% increase on season ticket prices….you were warned! But at least you have some pictures of a stadium that may never be built. Parasitizing these owners.”

Another supporter, @Eziemc01, added: “Oi, ManUtd, increase ticket prices while sitting in 13th? Might as well charge for tears – fans are already paying with their sanity! #GlazersOut.”

And the user @l1408_ wrote: “Embarrassing. worst season in 50 years and you still have the audacity to increase ticket prices.”

United fans @RedDevGirlUtd didn’t hold back either, posting: “Absolutely shameful! Removes the existing discount from senior citizens and gives them 2 months to find a 30% increase on the price of their season pass! The working class family club no more! Horrified by what our club has become, you don’t want season ticket holders! Simple.”

And @TyronBowman5 added: “Terrible ownership decisions, not even surprised that my own club is doing this. Congratulations Man United, I will always be a fan, but you have lost a season ticket holder.”
