When an ordinary striker in the Bundesliga is five games without scoring, there is no crisis. When Harry Kane does it for the first time, he has been decrepit. Before this week’s international matches for England, Kane thinks it’s time to respond to the criticism.

The German press and Bayern Munich supporters have criticized the Englishman, who nevertheless has 21 goals in 24 Bundesliga games and 10 in 11 Champions League games. Now the 31-year-old uses the microphone to put it all in perspective before the international matches where “all” England also expect Kane to score.

“It’s like when Ronaldo and Messi made this crazy statistic, and the following season they scored maybe 40 goals instead of 50. All of a sudden it was presented as if they were having a bad season,” Kane begins, according to the BBC.

“People take it for granted, and maybe it’s a bit like that in England too. I have scored 69 goals (for the national team) and now people expect me to score against nations like Albania and Latvia,” the captain continues.

“If I had been 25 years old now, there might have been a more upbeat atmosphere around me, compared to what we are now, but that’s where we’ve come to in the world of football. I’ve seen it happen to other players when they’re in their 30s,” Kane said.

Not often Kane bothers to respond to criticism, this time it has clearly gone too far.

Erling Haaland faces this criticism as a 24-year-old when he leaves a few games without netting, imagine what it will be like when he passes 30.
